PETALING JAYA – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he is ready to be fired as president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, but this must follow the party constitution, adding that he should be invited to the party’s supreme leadership council (MPT) meeting to express your opinion.
In a video posted on his Facebook page, the Bersatu president and the former prime minister said there was a serious violation of the party’s constitution in the recent attempt to fire him from his party.
He said an MPT meeting was called without inviting him and his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who is vice president of Bersatu.
“I am ready to be fired. But you must follow the party constitution. Invite me.
“When Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was fired from Umno (in 1998) when I was the party president, he was invited to attend the meeting of the supreme council.
“Before the High Council dismissed Anwar, he was given an opportunity to express his opinion,” said Dr. Mahathir.
He reminded the president and prime minister of Bersatu, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, that according to the party’s constitution, only the president could call a meeting of the MPT unless he was ill or abroad.
Dr. Mahathir said this in response to a recent MPT meeting notice that was sent to all incumbents except the President and Vice President. However, the meeting originally scheduled for May 11 was deferred.
“Even the agenda was not mentioned in the meeting notice. The motion should be specified,” he added.
Dr. Mahathir said that even if the agenda was to fire him, the procedures should go according to the party constitution.
