Angry that a female student was not paying attention, an independent fencing coach threw her mobile phone in her direction.

He struck the Secondary 2 student, who had removed his fencing mask, in the face, causing him to bleed from a cut on the bridge of his nose.

Yesterday, 27-year-old Chan Shihan from Singapore was fined $ 2,000 after pleading guilty to causing harm by acting recklessly.

Details about the then 13-year-old student and his school cannot be released because he is a minor.

On February 20 last year, the court heard that the boy and other students participated in a fencing class taught by Chan, which began around 3.45 pm in the school’s gymnastics room.

After a short break, Chan gathered them together for the next part of his lesson and noticed that the victim was sitting up.

Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Kee said Chan called the victim and asked him to get up, but he refused to do so, as he struck his fencing mask on the ground with his sword.

Angry, Chan, who was sitting in a chair about 5 meters from him, threw his mobile phone at him.

She had intended to hit the mask in front of him, but missed, and her phone hit his face instead, causing him to bleed.

Chan ran to administer first aid and reported the matter to the teacher in charge of the school.

HOSPITAL

The victim was taken to the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital to have her wound sutured and a seven-day medical leave was granted.

DPP Kee asked for a fine of at least $ 3,000, arguing that Chan was in a position of authority and the victim was a vulnerable person.

Chan’s attorney requested a fine of no more than $ 1,500, stating that she had repented of her actions and also apologized to the victim.
