SINGAPORE – A signaling failure disrupted train service along the North-South Line on Monday (March 29) morning.

The SMRT operator told commuters in a tweet around 7:30 a.m. to add 45 minutes of travel time between Raffles Place and Bishan stations.

The fault, which occurred between Newton and City Hall stations, has plagued commuters on the MRT line for more than two hours. SMRT had first alerted the public about the delay on its Twitter page at 5.47am

He said travelers traveling between Raffles Place and Toa Payoh should add 25 minutes of time to their commute.

The operator also activated bridge buses and made regular bus services running between stations free for ferry passengers.

In a post-6.40am tweet, SMRT advised travelers to avoid taking trains between Bishan and Marina South Pier stations. Commuters traveling to the city should take the East West Line, Circle Line, North East Line and Downtown Line instead, he added.

Free regular and shuttle buses between Bishan and Marina South Pier will continue until further notice, he said.

“Our engineers are working to rectify the fault. Trains move slower. Longer train travel time is expected … We are sorry to have affected your travel in the morning, ”said SMRT.

Monday’s signaling failure is the second MRT failure in two days.

On Sunday morning, train services between Punggol and Serangoon stations on the North East Line, run by SBS Transit, stopped for about three hours due to a power failure.
