The father of the boy whose foot got stuck on an escalator at VivoCity on September 13 has spoken about the ‘traumatic’ incident and how it turned out to be a ‘miracle’.
Stomper Samuel, who is the father of the child, sent us a link to his Facebook post.
In the post, he began by thanking the people who had a role to play in helping them that day.

He first thanked the person who pressed the emergency stop button on the escalator and called 995.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) for their speedy arrival on the scene.
He added how other citizens in the place helped him: “Thank you to the man who gave me courage by patting my chest twice when I was in a moment of shock and anguish.
“Thank you to the gentleman who offered his lap for my son to sit on while he awaited the arrival of SCDF.
“A special thanks to the off-duty SCDF officer who stayed with us throughout the incident, comforting my son and daughter and showing them a video of ‘Baby Shark’ to keep their attention off their foot.”
He also thanked netizens who have shown concern to him and his son after word of the incident spread.

In the second part of his Facebook post, Samuel also shared what exactly happened on that fateful day.
“We went up the escalator to go up to level one,” he said.
“My son held my left hand and my daughter held my right hand, we stood still and waited in silence.
“There was nothing unusual about the situation and the surroundings.
“A few seconds later, my son was suddenly distressed and that’s when I realized that his entire foot was already sucked up the side of the escalator.
“It was too late to get it out.
“As some of you may have guessed, yes, I was wearing Crocs shoes.
“The escalator finally stopped after someone pressed the stop button.
“SCDF arrived five to ten minutes later and it took about 30 minutes to free my son’s leg.
“His foot was immediately bandaged and he was sent to the National University Hospital (NUH).”
Samuel also shared that his son is recovering well and can actually already use “his injured leg to kick him” as he jumps up and down.
“There is no visible fracture in his foot, except for a small abrasion on the skin,” added Samuel.
“The memory of the incident is still traumatic until I cry when I talk about it.
“Time will heal and I will help my son overcome any fear associated with the incident.”
He concluded by saying that this whole incident “was really a miracle” and that it was as if “they had a second chance.”
