A 15-year-old boy died after being struck by a car at a U-turn in Queensway on Tuesday night (October 27), police confirmed.

The 54-year-old driver was arrested for causing serious injuries through negligent driving.

Speaking to Lianhe Wanbao, an aide at the nearby Singapore Petroleum Company service station said he had been serving customers when he heard a loud sound.

“I went over to check and saw a boy crouched and lying on the road. He was bleeding non-stop from his head,” the assistant, who did not want to be identified, told the Chinese newspaper.

The driver immediately stopped the car a short distance away and called police, he said.

Meanwhile, two women who were passing by stopped to help the boy and call an ambulance.

“They kept yelling at him to wake up and asking him not to close his eyes, but he no longer responded.”

He succumbed to his injuries after being taken to the National University Hospital, police said.

The boy came from Malaysia but lived in Singapore with his parents, his uncle shared. At the time of the accident, he was on his way home.

“The details of the accident are still not clear to us. We still have to wait for the police to investigate,” said the boy’s mother in response to inquiries from the newspaper.

Police are investigating the accident.
