The afternoon sunlight illuminates the green vegetation that casts a dappled canopy of light and shadow around you. Sip a cup of tea and enjoy a relaxing atmosphere punctuated by the lively chatter of songbirds.

This would be a tranquil image set in a beautiful outdoor garden, except that you are four stories above the ground and installed in a sky-lit atrium of a hotel with all the bustling action of Marina Bay outside its walls.

Formerly known as Marina Mandarin and rebranded PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay under Pan Pacific Hotels Group earlier this year, the iconic hotel had closed its doors for extensive rejuvenation in recent months to prepare for a highly anticipated reopening taking place today.

A garden of delights

Taking a leaf from the eco-chic PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering, widely known as Singapore’s “hotel-in-a-garden” and winner of Asia’s Leading Green Hotel at the World Travel Awards for the sixth consecutive year, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay se has taken the concept to a whole new level by building a hotel garden.

The spectacular and theatrical neo-futuristic design by American architect John Portman, a hallmark of the hotel since it opened in 1987, provided the ideal setting for the reinvention of the atrium hotel, a challenge that the hotel’s designers took on with enthusiasm.

When PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay opens, guests will be greeted by a stunning oasis, one where lushly landscaped walls and hallways seamlessly intertwine with the cavernous atrium, and an eye-catching skylight, curved hallways, and shaped elevators capsule form a cinematic backdrop.

Located discreetly behind the hotel entrance, four elevators operate around the clock to transport guests noiselessly to the fourth floor, where they can stroll along a sky bridge for a bird’s-eye view of the lush forest canopy and enjoy the an immersive experience in the treetops. Hotel check-ins can follow this bridge to the other end of the atrium to reach a moss-carpeted reception area bounded by backlit wooden screens.

Nature comes first

Enter a guest room at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay and motion sensors detect movement immediately – the soft hum of the air conditioner is almost imperceptible when the ambient lighting is turned on. To order in-room food or request housekeeping, simply scan a QR code with any mobile device; no need to leaf through a hotel directory or pick up the phone for 24-hour service.

Pan Pacific Hotels Group embarks on a mission to eliminate the use of single-use plastics. As such, a filtered water system has been installed in each room, an environmentally friendly and efficient way to serve drinking water at any time. To minimize the impact on the environment, the hotel will also provide cruelty-free, paraben-free, and biodegradable packaging.

Already home to more than 2,400 trees, shrubs and plants that function as natural air purifiers, the hotel will also be able to offer hand-picked products from its urban farm to its restaurants by January next year. By then, the Atrium Ballroom will also be ready, offering an exclusive space overlooking the luxurious gardens from the fifth level and a refreshing and close to nature experience for your guests.

Enchantment after dark

Even as daylight fades into darkness around town, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay remains alive and magnificent, with some of its impressive design features truly coming to life at night.

With 3,000 dazzling “stars” studded into a wood-paneled ceiling, the column-free Garden Ballroom is a magical setting for special occasions like weddings. Three high-definition LED displays (one of which spans 9.2m) provide a wealth of possibilities for the environment. Smart technology is excellently used to meet the wide range of needs your guests may have.

Inspired by the city’s night sky, the hotel’s pool is equipped with more than 1,380 fiber optic lights that glow at night, so taking a dip in the pool feels like sliding through a galaxy of stars. As the sky darkens, the inner atmosphere transforms into a haven of peace where the sculptural pavilions light up like oversized lanterns, emitting a soft glow and preparing the senses for a wonderful evening.
