Enhanced security management measures at Changi Airport after 2 workers tested positive for COVID-19

SINGAPORE: Security management measures at Changi Airport have been improved to protect front-line workers, after two people working at Terminal 3 tested positive for COVID-19 last month, the Authority said. Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).

The two positive COVID-19 cases involving airport workers were detected on October 24, CAAS said in a press release on Friday (November 6).

After the positive cases were detected, around 5,000 airport workers who had worked at Terminal 3 since early October were sent for COVID-19 testing, CAAS said. They all tested negative.

Another thirty-three airport workers who were not available for the one-off operation have been temporarily suspended from their duties until they test negative for COVID-19.

Safe management measures at the airport have since been improved, CAAS said.

All airport workers who come into “close contact” with travelers from high-risk countries or regions will now be required to wear full personal protective equipment. This includes masks, face shields or goggles, gloves, overshoes, and medical gowns, when needed.

All other workers will continue to be required to wear masks and, where necessary, gloves.

Airport workers who work with travelers, their belongings and the surfaces that travelers come in contact with, have also been placed on routine tests listed as of November 1. COVID-19 tests will be done every two weeks.

The frequency of disinfection and cleaning at the airport has been increased, CAAS said, adding that monitoring and enforcement of safe management measures within the airport will be intensified to ensure workers and travelers adhere to the measures.
