Former Liverpool star Emile Heskey has named the former Reds academy man they hoped would do his side for what Trent Alexander-Arnold has under Jurgen Klopp.

Homegrown star Alexander-Arnold has been a model of consistency ever since he made his way under the German’s guidance and has made the slot on the right his own with a series of consistent, high-quality performances.

This season alone, Alexander-Arnold has 13 incredible assists to his name, with his screens on the right flank even capturing the attention of Kylian Mbappe.

But Heskey insists that there was once another man from the academy in Melwood who was expected to have the same kind of impact: Jon Otsemobor.

Discussing where it all went wrong, Heskey exclusively counted 888sport: “I think it was Norwich, but when I got to Liverpool Jon Otsemobor was a right back and he was flying. I do not know what happened. He just left.

“But he was good and he had so much energy that you really needed that position in those days because when you went over the edge, he wasn’t coming back for you, he was all man by himself back then.”

“It was very good, but it was never fully accomplished. You look at Trent and he and Robertson were as good as they were. “

Houllier also had more than one or two good things to say about former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier and claims that the Frenchman laid the foundation for Rafa Benítez’s success.

“My relationship with Houllier was excellent and when people ask me who was the best manager I worked with, I say it is between him and Martin O’Neill.” Heskey additional.

“Martin gave me my first chance and made sure I played fearlessly and allowed me to do what I love and what I am capable of doing.” Gerard Houllier put a little more structure into that. It was brilliant in that regard.

“He was probably ahead of his time because the things he was doing then everyone is doing now. When it comes to nutrition and diet, he was doing it years ago and cheering us on, but we weren’t mentally “there” at the time.

“I know some older players who were there at the time and now they recognize the things that he was trying to make us do, but we were stuck in our ways.

“It was a little before its time and it was there now, I would see even more results than what it got. He laid the groundwork because the vast majority of the team he took on took him to another level. “
