SAN FRANCISCO: Tesla CEO Elon Musk questioned the accuracy of the COVID-19 tests on Thursday (Nov 12) after stating that the results showed he tested positive twice and then negative twice on the same day. .

“Something extremely false is happening. He got tested for covid four times today. Two tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse. Rapid BD antigen test,” Musk said in a tweet, possibly referring to the Becton, Dickinson and Company rapid antigen test.

Musk, who underwent rapid antigen tests on Thursday, said he was also awaiting the results of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests from different labs.

When asked by a Twitter user if he showed any symptoms, Musk said he had symptoms of a “typical cold.”

“Nothing unusual so far,” Musk added.

BD, which is a leading provider of COVID-19 antigen testing, said in September that it was investigating reports from nursing homes in the United States that its rapid coronavirus test kit was producing false positive results.

Earlier this month, the US Food and Drug Administration said it was alerting clinical laboratory personnel and healthcare providers that false positive results can occur with COVID-19 antigen tests.

Musk had previously criticized coronavirus-related restrictions and lockouts, referring to them as “fascist” and a violation of individual freedom.

BD did not respond to a request for comment late Thursday.
