An elderly man was charged $ 4,445 for a one-time facial at a beauty salon in Tampines, sparking a dispute in which police were called to the scene.

Stomp Ho Contributor He said his 87-year-old grandfather visited E.Zone, located in the Tampines Bus Interchange, on Sept. 17 for a facial.

Ho said, “My grandfather saw a sign advertising the facial for $ 38 and walked in.

“A woman in the salon told her halfway through the facial that it would cost $ 20 to extract each oilseed.

“As an older person, my grandfather understood that the total amount would be less than $ 100. However, after all the treatment, they charged him $ 4,445!

“The woman didn’t even give him an invoice or receipt.

“My grandfather, who did not want to create problems, paid them $ 2,000 through NETS.”

However, since Ho’s grandfather had reached his NETS limit of $ 2,000, he had to go to the bank to withdraw cash to pay the remaining balance.

Ho told Stomp: “The woman in the room followed my grandfather to the bank, where the bank teller alerted him to the possible scam, especially after noticing the $ 2,000 transaction he had made earlier.

“Just to clarify, this is not a bundle! It’s a one-time face price so we were surprised.”

Ho said he tried to ask the salon for a receipt several times but to no avail, prompting him to stop by the venue on Sunday (September 20), Shin Min Daily News reported.

There was a dispute between both parties.

Two videos that Ho shared with Stomp show the old man’s family confronting the staff at the hair salon.

In one video, an employee is heard saying that she had explained to the elderly man how each oilseed costs $ 20 to be removed and that she had counted each one out loud.

Employee: “So I don’t understand why they have to come get me, leh.”

Man: “We’ve never had a facial that cost $ 4,445 in all these years, so we came to understand [the situation]. And can you give us the receipt? “

Employee: “Not everyone can film me like this, leh.”

Man: “Why not?”

Employee: “All of you -“

Man: “We want to understand.”

Employee: “They can’t keep filming me like this, leh.”

Man: “We just want to understand, all of Singapore has never had a facial that cost $ 4,445 before.”

Employee: “Stop filming, keep your phones.”

In a second video, another employee can be heard telling the elderly man’s family to stop filming her without permission.

The family can also be heard telling the employee to call the police, and one man says, “I know Singapore law.”

The clerk said, “First of all, I must tell you one thing clearly. When my colleague [here], your father came to us alone, we didn’t stop him.

“Whatever my colleague did for him, I definitely would have told him the price. If he didn’t report the price, we wouldn’t do it anyway.”

Both parties began to argue, the family requested a receipt and the employee asked them to leave the name, phone number and signature of the old man.

Finally the police were called.

In response to an inquiry from Stomp, police said they were alerted to a dispute case at 513 Tampines Central at 11:56 a.m. on September 20.

“The police are investigating the matter,” added a spokesman.

When Shin Min contacted him, the salon owner said that the old man had understood and accepted the price before the treatment began.

Ms. Huang, 40, said the old man had requested to have his feet washed and asked about how to remove the bumps on his face and neck during his visit.

The salon did not solicit clients, Ms. Huang said.

She added: “The CCTV footage clearly shows the staff specifically telling him that it would cost $ 20 for each oilseed.

“He started treatment after understanding this and also knew that he could stop treatment at any time.

“During the treatment, the staff also counted all the oilseeds out loud one by one.”

According to salon staff, 220 oilseeds were extracted from the elderly man, amounting to $ 4,400. Along with his $ 158 facial, his total bill was $ 4,558.

Since I had only paid $ 2,000, no receipt was issued.

Ms. Huang also denied that her staff had accompanied the old man to the bank and said that he had left alone. She then returned to confront her staff afterward, before storming off and refusing to pay the balance.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the employee who treated the old man claimed that he had requested “special services”.

The old man denied doing so and said it was the first time he had heard this.

Ho told Shin Min: “My grandfather is already 87 years old, it’s hard to believe that he would make such a request.”
