EA names the date to reveal the next generation of games: will we see Battlefield 6?

EA has announced that it will digitally host its annual EA Play event on June 11, and the studio promises to unveil “world premieres, news and more.”

EA Play 2020 will take place on what was supposed to be the last day of E3 2020, before the conference was canceled. While EA hasn’t been attending E3 for years, the publisher generally conducts its independent EA Play broadcast in the run-up to the annual gaming conference rather than its previous traditional conference.

Last year, EA Play saw the publisher announcing the Island Living Expansion Pack for The Sims 4, a new Apex Legends character and gameplay material from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

EA Play is generally fairly community focused and the publisher takes over the Hollywood Palladium to allow players to try out some of their next biggest games. However, this year the broadcast will be digital only, so expect a line of ad trailers and first looks.

What are we waiting to see?

At EA Play 2020, we look forward to seeing EA’s next generation line of games. So far, the publisher has confirmed that it is working on Battlefield 6, which will hit PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021, and we can expect to see annual releases like FIFA 21 on next-gen consoles as well. So we hope to see you at this event.

But what about games that are less secure? Well considering the EA Star Wars Twitter account tweeted the ad, we hope the publisher has a new Star Wars game in the works. We’d also love to see next-gen Sims, rather than a mountain of expansion packs. Respawn has also hinted at the next generation of Apex Legends through job listings, so maybe we’ll hear more about that.

Either way, we know EA has some cool things to cook.

“The power of the new consoles will be substantially greater than existing consoles,” EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said in an investor call in January. “We can do much more [with PS5 and Xbox Series X]. The things we are doing will blow people’s minds. “

EA Play will take place at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET on June 11 (or at 12 a.m. BST / 9 a.m. AEST on June 12).
