A driver was arrested for multiple crimes following a dramatic police chase in the Central Business District (CBD), which resulted in him colliding with two other vehicles and driving onto a sidewalk, on Thursday (September 24).

Police officers were patrolling an open space parking lot along Bayfront Avenue around 11.50 a.m. when they came across a car with a missing front bumper, a police spokesman said in response to questions from Stomp. .

Officers approached the vehicle and saw a man in the driver’s seat. However, the 32-year-old man ignored the officers’ request to get out of the vehicle and sped off.

“A chase ensued and the chase stopped when the car pulled onto a sidewalk along Anson Road after colliding with a taxi and another passenger car,” the spokesperson added.

“In the aftermath of the collision, a 38-year-old male driver and his 29-year-old male passenger of the passenger car were unconscious when they were transferred to Singapore General Hospital.”

The 72-year-old taxi driver had no visible injuries.

The 32-year-old suspect tried to evade police on foot.

He was conscious when he was taken to Singapore General Hospital.

Police also said that a 32-year-old Traffic Police (TP) officer was conducting investigations at the crash site when she was struck by another car passing at the intersection of Anson Road and Prince Edward Road.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the 36-year-old male driver of the passing car had not maintained adequate surveillance,” the police spokesman told Stomp.

“He was arrested for dangerous driving and causing injury.”

Several Stompers shared photos and videos showing a silver car driving onto the sidewalk in front of the Tanjong Pagar MRT station.
