A man was shocked after nearly being in an accident involving a pickup truck that suddenly turned violently along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) on Wednesday night (October 28).

Stomper Sze Yao shared dash cam footage of the incident that occurred at the AYE towards Clementi, as he was on his way home from work around 7.53pm

In the video, the driver appears to lose control of the truck, which can be seen swerving violently from left to right.

Then the truck makes a maneuver and comes to a stop with its forehead towards Sze Yao, who manages to stop in time.

Sze Yao recounted what happened after the close shave, saying, “The driver of the truck regained control of his vehicle and started backing away from me.

“I pulled away as soon as I could as I had stopped suddenly due to the free spinning truck and I was worried that there would be cars behind me that would not be able to stop in time and collide with my car.

“From what I could see, the truck didn’t damage any other cars.”

When asked what he thought might have caused the actions of the truck driver, Sze Yao said: “I suspect he fell asleep at the wheel and upon waking up he turned the wheel to the left.

“From then on, he probably did a series of over-balancing turns of the wheel that led to the wild fish tail seen in the video.”

As no one was injured and there was no collision, the Stomper did not report the incident to authorities.

He added: “I posted it on Instagram Stories incorporating the following poem:

Life is fine

I’m not facing the other side

In the AYE

Sze Yao told Stomp, “I feel very lucky to be alive.

“Now I also listen to 雪 落下 的 声音 (‘The Sound of Snow Falling’) if I feel like I need extra luck. The song helped me to stay calm during a rather unexpected situation.”
