Singapore – A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after his car crashed in front of a store on Serangoon Road on Tuesday (December 29), injuring at least two pedestrians.

Videos of the BMW crashing into the side of the road and striking pedestrians circulated widely on WhatsApp Messenger and social media on both Tuesday and Wednesday (December 30).

In CCTV footage of the store outside which the incident occurred, the car is seen hitting two men. One lunges forward and the other toward the merchandise on the five-foot path. The car stops at a light pole. The first man appears to have been more affected, although he is out of sight. The second man gets up quickly and walks toward the store. He is later shown examining his left elbow, which appeared to have been scraped when it fell.

CCTV footage from the store shows a pair of shop assistants getting up immediately after the accident to check on the damage. As bystanders gather, the driver, who appeared to be uninjured, can be seen slowly exiting the vehicle.

In response to inquiries from the media, police said they were alerted to an accident involving a car and pedestrians at 5.07pm.

Police added that a 40-year-old pedestrian was conscious when he was taken to Raffles Hospital.
