SINGAPORE – Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) personnel rescued an injured worker from a tower crane at a construction site along How Sun Drive around 4.25pm on Monday (September 7).

The male worker was working on the crane, 40 meters in the air, when he injured his leg and was unable to lower himself to safety, SCDF said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

A team of four specialists from the Disaster Rescue and Assistance Team (DART) climbed a cat ladder to the crane and through its narrow arm to reach the injured man.

They were secured in place and set up a descent system with ropes and pulleys. One of the specialists treated and bandaged the man’s wound, all the time suspended in the air.

On the ground, other DART specialists attached a stretcher to a rope that had been deployed by the team on the crane. Working in tandem, the teams lifted the stretcher to where the casualty was and held him firmly on the stretcher. The process took about an hour.

A DART specialist held onto the stretcher, which was slowly lowered to the ground with the help of other DART specialists and firefighters.

Later, the injured worker was sent to Sengkang General Hospital.
