The central business district may be on the quieter side these days, but it certainly saw its fair share of drama yesterday (September 24).
A 32-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous driving causing injury and suspected drug-related crimes after a four-kilometer chase that ended when he crashed into the exit of the Tanjong MRT station. Pay, the police confirmed.
But that was not all: a traffic police officer conducting investigations at the scene was later hit by a passing car.
The 36-year-old driver of the passing car was arrested for dangerous driving and causing injury after preliminary investigations revealed he had not been vigilant, police said.
The car chase started on Bayfront Avenue
Patrol officers had first approached the car involved in the chase, a white sedan with its front bumper missing, around 11:50 a.m. that day in an open space parking lot along Bayfront Avenue.
The driver ignored requests from officers to get out of the vehicle and sped off.
During the course of the chase, the white sedan collided with a silver sedan, which then collided with a taxi, a witness told Shin Min Daily News.
Speaking to the Chinese daily, the taxi driver said that he was driving in the left lane of the road when he was suddenly hit by a vehicle on his right. Fortunately, he escaped unscathed, he said.
The white sedan then pulled up onto a sidewalk before crashing into a wall at a Tanjong Pagar MRT exit along Anson Road.
The driver exited the wreck and tried to flee the scene on foot, but was subsequently arrested, police said.
The two men in the silver sedan, the driver of the white sedan, and the traffic police officer were all conscious when they were taken to Singapore General Hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
