For those who have always wanted to explore the nooks and crannies of the heart of Singapore, a new series of tours launched yesterday hope to do just that.

The first of the 10 tours will be on November 29 and will take participants through the Ang Mo Kio and Kebun Baru properties.

Around 80 locations are available for the tour, which includes stops at places of historical and cultural significance around Ang Mo Kio Town Central and Kebun Baru Neighborhood Center.

Led by City Tours guides, these heart tours will last approximately 31/2 hours and will involve eight groups of no more than 10 people each.

At Ang Mo Kio, one will explore wall murals and visit old shops and stores that have been standing for decades.

In Kebun Baru, tour participants will visit hidden gems such as the district’s bird cage street, where bird song competitions used to be held.

Those unable to attend the tours can look forward to content from the Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao and Fly Entertainment virtual videos featuring local celebrities such as Irene Ang, who will highlight these places and their history.

The tours are jointly launched by the Chinese media group Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and the Heartland Enterprise Center Singapore (HECS), and are supported by the Federation of Singapore Merchants Associations (FMAS) and Enterprise Singapore.

They are part of a collaboration under a memorandum of understanding signed by SPH, HECS, and FMAS to drive heart rejuvenation and help boost business for neighborhood businesses and street vendors.

Yeo Hiang Meng, President of FMAS and Managing Director of HECS, said: “Our street vendors and heart businesses have felt the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“In collaboration with our partners, we want to encourage more Singaporeans, expats and tourists to rediscover our neighborhoods and bring the much-needed step back to the heart.”

Tickets for the tours are $ 20 each and there are plans to expand them to other districts. Those interested in signing up for the tour through Ang Mo Kio and Kebun Baru can do so at https://citytours.sg/heartland-tour.html
