SINGAPORE – Luxury travel retailer DFS began liquidating its stocks before leaving Changi airport next month.
After 35 years, Changi’s oldest and largest tenant will leave the airport’s wine and spirits concession on June 8.
From now until the end of May, customers will be able to enjoy reduced prices up to 70 percent for more than 200 exclusive offers of wines and spirits at Singapore Changi DFS Airport, which are sold online. The site offers products at prices absorbed from taxes and goods and services (GST).
Retailers at the airport have been hit hard in recent months by Covid-19, as flights decreased due to travel restrictions and passenger numbers sold out.
Changi Airport announced Tuesday that it would suspend operations at Terminal 4 from Saturday (May 16) onward, following a suspension of services at Terminal 2 on May 1. The suspension of the terminal includes the closure of all stores and restaurants.
Currently, the airport registers about 80 weekly flights, compared to 7,400 weekly flights prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, and only around 100 passengers arrive and 700 depart every day.
To combat the drop in buyer traffic, retailers, including DFS, have turned to e-commerce platforms and online promotions to attract customers.
In a press release on Thursday (May 14), DFS announced that the e-commerce platform ishopchangiwines.com will offer flash deals daily at 9 p.m., on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.
Until the end of May, the carton can buy Carlsberg, Suntory and Tiger beers, as well as Somersby cider and craft beers.
From May 16 to May 22, free delivery will be available to customers who spend a minimum of $ 150 instead of the usual required expense of $ 250.

South Korean operator Lotte Duty Free is set to take over the 18 liquor and tobacco concession shops at Changi airport when DFS departs.
The contract awarded to Lotte is for six years from June 9 of this year and covers more than 8,000 square meters of commercial space in the four terminals of Changi.
