SINGAPORE – An IT engineer working at Deutsche Bank was the only community case of Covid-19 announced on Friday (March 12).

On March 1, he developed a runny nose and sought medical treatment from a general practitioner the same day, but refused to be tested for Covid-19, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

The work pass holder, who has been working from home since arriving from India in January, received five days of medical leave and was advised to return for a test if he did not recover, the Health Ministry added.

He was later detected on Thursday when he took a Covid-19 test prior to departure in preparation for his trip to India.

His test result came back positive for the virus the same day and he was taken to the National Center for Infectious Diseases in an ambulance.

The IT engineer had previously arrived from India on January 16 and delivered a stay-at-home notice (SHN) at a dedicated facility until January 30.

His test taken on January 29 during SHN was negative for Covid-19.

The Indian citizen’s serological test result is positive, indicating a probable past infection.

“Those who are advised by their doctor to get tested for Covid-19 should do so, even if they show mild symptoms,” the MOH added.

There were also nine imported cases confirmed by the Ministry of Health, bringing Singapore’s total to 60,080.

They tested positive while serving NHSs after their arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.

They came from various countries, including Indonesia, Switzerland, and the Philippines.

Among the nine cases, there were two short-term visit pass holders who arrived from Cambodia and Indonesia, who were already receiving medical care in Singapore and had returned for further treatment.

Sengkang Community Club and Toast Box in Bugis Junction are among the places visited by Covid-19 patients when they were still infectious, the Health Ministry said.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has been stable at three cases per week for the past two weeks.

The number of unrelated cases in the community has also risen to three cases in the last week, from two cases in the previous week.

With 11 cases discharged on Friday, 59,935 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 21 patients remain in the hospital, including one in critical condition in the intensive care unit, while 80 are recovering in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
