Dairy Farm investigates after customer finds ‘black dots’ in eggs purchased from Giant

Stomper Angel, a small home cooking business owner, was preparing ingredients for her customers’ braised pork rice orders when she noticed an unusual black spot on one of her eggs.

He immediately knew something was wrong and began to go through the other hard-boiled eggs he had prepared.

To his horror, he saw black spots on 15 eggs from his batch of 30 boiled eggs.

Angel told Stomp that he had bought the eggs from the giant hypermarket in Tampines on November 13 and cooked them on November 17.

“I was preparing the ingredients for the braised pork rice that my clients were asking for and one of the main ingredients is the boiled egg that goes well with the pork,” said Angel.

“I started peeling the shells off my hard-boiled eggs and noticed these weird black dots on them. I’ve never seen anything like this before. There’s no way I’m serving this to my customers.”

Angel added that he informed Giant about this through his Facebook page.

“I can’t help but wonder what would happen if I didn’t notice the blackheads. Or, worse yet, what if families with children and babies consume these eggs? This is very concerning,” he said.

In response to a query from Stomp, a spokesperson for the Dairy Farm Group, under which Giant is located, said: “The health and safety of our customers are our top priority and we take these matters very seriously. We are aware of the customer feedback on the eggs and they are currently conducting an internal investigation. “

The spokesperson added that they are also in contact with their egg supplier about it.

“We thank our client for informing us on this matter and have since contacted to offer a full refund for the eggs,” the spokesperson said.

Stomp has contacted the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) for more information.
