SINGAPORE: The SafeEntry digital check-in system, which registers the entry of employees and visitors to companies to facilitate contact tracking, has been implemented in more than 16,000 places to date, said the Ministry of Health and Smart Nation and the Digital Government Office in a joint launch on Saturday (May 9).

Developed by the Government Technology Agency, SafeEntry requires visitors to scan their ID card so that the system can record their arrival and departure times. The system reduces the manual effort businesses need to track visitor movements and relieves crowds at entry points, according to the SafeEntry website.

On May 2, National Development Minister Lawrence Wong said that companies allowed to operate since May 12 as part of the government’s easing of COVID-19 “breaker” measures would be necessary to use the SafeEntry application.

“To begin with, the deployment will be mandatory for places where people are likely to be nearby for long periods or in confined spaces, or where there is increased traffic,” the government said in the joint statement on Saturday.

“To date, SafeEntry has been deployed in more than 16,000 locations,” authorities said, adding that a list of facilities where SafeEntry should be implemented starting May 12 can be found on the SafeEntry website and will update as more activities and services are performed. resume.

These include workplaces that include offices and factories, schools, health centers, community care centers, hair salons, supermarkets, popular wet markets, shopping malls, and hotels.

SafeEntry will also roll out to taxis starting May 12 to better support contact tracking for hail travel.

Retail outlets, such as convenience stores and pharmacies, as well as F&B food and beverage outlets are not required, but use of SafeEntry is recommended.

“Employees and visitors must enter and leave workplaces and other places using SafeEntry to help our contact trackers establish cluster links and chain feeds.

“It is important that everyone play their part and use SafeEntry, so that we can collectively avoid the formation of new groups,” the statement added.
