COVID-19: Man accused of sending food to a friend’s house, eating with her and driving alcohol

SINGAPORE: A man was charged in court on Friday (May 15) with violating COVID-19 by sending food to a friend’s house and eating and drinking with her.

Following this, he allegedly drove while intoxicated and was caught speeding on the highway.

Wong Teck Chye, 46, was charged with two counts of violating COVID-19 regulations by leaving his home to send food to a friend and eat dinner and drink at his home.

He was given two other traffic charges for driving while intoxicated and speeding.

According to the charge sheets, Wong met a person named Aw Mei Ling around 4 p.m. on April 24. She is accused of dining and having drinks with her in an apartment at 9 Selegie Road.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. the next day, he allegedly shipped food to the same unit, leaving his home without a reasonable excuse during the “circuit breaker” period.

Shortly after this, he was found along the Tampines Expressway, toward the Pan Island Expressway, with at least 43 micrograms of alcohol in 100 ml of his breath, according to the load sheets.

This exceeds the legal limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 ml of breath.

He is also accused of accelerating to 133 km / h along the highway, above the 90 km / h limit.

The charge sheets indicate that he had previously been convicted in 2001 of speeding and therefore faces more severe penalties.

Wong said his attorney will write to the chambers of the Attorney General.

He will return to court on May 29.

For each count of violation of COVID-19 regulations, you can be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S $ 10,000, or both.

For driving while intoxicated, you can be jailed for up to one year, fined between S $ 2,000 and S $ 10,000, or both.

You can be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S $ 2,000, or both for speeding, as you were previously convicted of the same crime.
