SINGAPORE: Starting November 30, all Singapore residents will be able to pick up a pair of antimicrobial masks for free, as part of the third such initiative organized by the Temasek Foundation.

The new skins are black and come in four sizes, Temasek Holdings CEO Ho Ching said in a Facebook post on Thursday (November 19).

People should find out the size of their mask before collecting or reserving their masks.

According to the Temasek Foundation mask size guide, the best fit for your face can be determined by aligning the middle of your eyes with a ruler and measuring the distance to the bottom of your chin.

Black masks are available in small (110mm or smaller), medium (100mm-120mm), large (110mm-130mm), and extra large (125mm or larger) sizes. A free mask kit in size S will also be available per child eight years and younger.

People who fall between two size categories should go for a larger size, he added.

Collections and pre-orders begin on November 30 at 10 a.m. and the initiative will end on December 13.

More details will be released next week, Temasek said.

Mdm Ho said that the latest masks, which are from Proshield, are breathable and antimicrobial.

Masks generally come in two basic types, Mdm Ho explained in a Facebook post.

The first type is a pleated universal fit mask, such as a surgical mask or the reusable DET30 masks previously distributed by the Temasek Foundation.

The second type is the 3D mask that fits the face.

“It is similar to the Singapore white lion mask that was distributed in the National Day package destined for all households,” said Mdm Ho.

Mdm Ho added that the 3D masks to be distributed in the third nationwide distribution will come with “pockets” like those seen on many DIY skins.

The masks will also come with replacement filters, which can be slid into the mask pocket if the user prefers to have more protection in crowded places.

These masks are suitable for use during exercise and can last for 30 or more washes with proper care.

“With a proper fit, a 3D mask can be placed very well on the nose and wraps under the chin, with enough room to breathe and speak without the mask sliding down our nose,” said Mdm Ho.
