SINGAPORE – More co-curricular activities (CCA) will be allowed to resume after the end-of-year exams are completed for primary and secondary schools as well as universities, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said on Wednesday (7 October) .

Up to 50 people will be allowed to participate in these CCAs, except for higher-risk activities, as Singapore gradually eases coronavirus security restrictions. This is an increase of 20 people currently.

Some activities that will resume from mid-October include learning trips and non-residential activities that take place at the Ministry of Education’s outdoor adventure learning centers.

Various inter-school activities, such as the local Olympics, will also be allowed to resume, and the public speaking and theater programs will be given the green light from mid-October.

The National School Games and the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Performance will also resume from 2021.

Students will be able to participate in Outward Bound Singapore’s learning activities starting next year, the MOE added.

However, the ministry said that these activities will resume with safe management measures.

The distance of 1 m between students will continue to apply, and for sports that students play without the mask, they should be kept at least 2 m apart.

For activities where a distance of 1 m cannot be maintained, students must adhere to the “group of five” rule.

High touch points and common facilities should be cleaned at the end of each activity or group change.

The Ministry of Education said that CCA experiences and school activities are important elements for the socio-emotional well-being and comprehensive development of students.

“They provide opportunities and platforms for students to explore their passion, build camaraderie, develop character and resilience, and strengthen mental well-being, which are especially important during these difficult times,” he said.
