KAJANG (STAR / ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – Malaysian police launched an investigation into allegations that Islamic Affairs Minister Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri ignored the country’s movement control order (MCO).

Kajang Police Chief Mohd Zaid Hassan confirmed receiving a police report on the matter.

“We have opened a police investigation document to facilitate initial investigations into the case,” he said in a statement Thursday (May 14).

A redacted police report seen by The Star alleged that Datuk Seri Zulkifli had uploaded photos of his activities on his Facebook page on May 2.

The report was presented by a 43-year-old man at the Bandar Baru Bangi Police Station around 6:10 p.m. on May 3.

The complainant mentioned that a series of activities carried out by Mr. Zulkifli had challenged the MCO.

The minister allegedly did this by sending a transfer letter to a senior official with the Malaysian Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) in person on March 31 and taking photos with the officer.

It is also alleged that Zulkifli met with an acquaintance, the member of the Umno Supreme Council, Dr. Fathul Bari, and several others, and held a meeting in his office without observing the rules of social distancing on April 13.

The report also stated that the following day, the minister summoned Dr. Fathul and the university professors, Dr. Rozaimi Ramli and Dr. Ahmad Kamil Jamilin, as well as several others, to meet in his office.
