Coronavirus: 62,000 Workers Still Not Scheduled for Routine Testing Before Sept. 5 Deadline, Manpower News & Top Stories

SINGAPORE – All workers staying in dormitories, as well as those working in the construction, marine and process sectors and visiting work sites, must be cleaned up by September 5.

The reminder came from the Ministry of Manpower, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), the Health Promotion Board (HPB) and the Economic Development Board on Tuesday (September 1), as 8 percent of the 1,500 employers have yet to log into HPB’s swab registration system to do so.

So far, about 62,000 workers who need to be tested have yet to be scheduled.

By September 5, they should have started their Routine List Testing (RRT), which takes place every 14 days. Otherwise, they will not be able to return to work, authorities said in a joint statement.

“We remind these employers to quickly schedule appointments for their workers to avoid disruptions to their business operations,” according to the statement.

Employers can schedule their workers for TRR at regional screening centers across the island, such as Old Police Academy and Float @ Marina Bay, and test locations in some specially designed dormitories for workers staying in dormitories.

Once workers have been scheduled under the swab registration system for the first time, they will automatically be assigned new dates for future swabs.

Employers are encouraged to log into the swab registration system regularly to schedule appointments if they have new workers.

Authorities have warned that employers who behave irresponsibly and persistently fail to schedule workers for TRR may have their work pass privileges restricted.

To date, the BCA has rescinded the approval of 1,148 workers to resume work, after a group of companies and their workers failed to submit to TRS for an extended period, despite multiple reminders to employers.

Employers can contact industry leaders with questions about testing requirements.

More information is available on the Ministry of Labor website for employers with manufacturing and service workers staying in dormitories.
