SINGAPORE – About 150 people were caught ignoring safe distancing measures, while more than 50 did not wear a mask outside their homes on Wednesday (April 22).

By giving this update in a Facebook post on Wednesday night, the Minister of Environment and Water Resources, Masagos Zulkifli, also encouraged Singaporeans to stay home.

Referring to those who were caught violating the rules, he wrote: “I hope these people realize that their actions are putting their families and community at risk.”

He also noted that officials in the markets encountered thinner crowds on Wednesday and people understood the goals of the additional control measures.

“How much longer the switch will last will be up to each of us. If we stay home as much as possible, we can help reduce local broadcast numbers. Then the working group of various ministries can facilitate some of the action sooner. than later, “he said.

On Tuesday, the government announced several improved measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, including a one-month extension of the circuit breaker period until June 1.

Additional measures were also taken in four popular wet markets: the Geylang Serai Market, the Chong Pang Market in the 104/105 Yishun Ring Road Block and the markets in the 20/21 Marsiling Lane Block and the 505 Jurong West Street 52 Block.

Starting Wednesday, consumers going out to buy groceries in these markets will be able to do so only on alternate days, depending on the last digit of their identity card or Foreign Identification Number (FIN).

If a person’s last digit of the NRIC or FIN number is an odd number, you must visit all four markets on odd-numbered dates, such as Thursday, April 23.

If a person’s last digit of the NRIC or FIN number is an even number, you should only visit all four markets on dates that are even numbers, such as Friday, April 24.

Masagos advised those planning to visit these markets to verify if they can enter on Thursday, bring a photo ID card showing their NRIC or FIN number, and go to these markets alone.

“The circuit breaker has been difficult for all of us. Let’s work together to make it a success in the shortest possible time,” he added.
