SINGAPORE: The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has seized drugs worth nearly S $ 1.7 million, including more than 20 kg of cannabis, its largest drug load in about 14 years, it said on Thursday (March 18).

Approximately 20.509g of cannabis, 8.296g of heroin and 6.439g of Ice were seized in the drug bust, which took place Tuesday and Wednesday at various locations in Singapore.

The loot also included around 1,091 Ecstasy tablets and 1,000 Erimin-5 tablets. In total, the seized drugs weighed more than 35 kg.

THREE MEN ARRESTED

On Tuesday night, CNB officers intercepted a vehicle near Kempas Road and arrested two men: a 33-year-old driver and a 27-year-old passenger.

After searching the vehicle, officers found around 419g of ice and 87 tablets of ecstasy.

The 33-year-old’s HDB apartment near McNair Road was then searched. Officers found 8,296 g of heroin, 5,014 g of ice, 20,509 g of cannabis, 1,000 tablets of ecstasy, and 100 tablets of Erimin-5. The next day, CNB agents arrested a 30-year-old man near McNair Road.

Investigations into the drug-related activities of all the suspects are ongoing.

Responding to questions about the origin of the drugs or how they were introduced into the country, Mr. Sng Chern Hong, Deputy Director for Policy and Administration at CNB, said that Singapore is not a drug-producing country and that the office has a “Very strong presence” at border checkpoints.

But he added: “We have to recognize that despite these measures, there will be times when some drugs may enter. That is why the other strategy of the CNB, regarding the control of the drug situation, is robust and rigorous coercive action. . “

CNB said the total amount of drugs seized in the operation is enough to feed 3,950 heroin users, 3,700 ice users and 2,930 cannabis users for one week.

“This operation shows that cannabis remains a clear and current threat to society,” said Superintendent Tang.

“Many pro-cannabis lobby groups continue to make many unverified claims to encourage cannabis use, despite strong and well-documented studies on the harms of cannabis.

“At CNB and the local team, we believe that drugs have no place in Singapore, and we are committed to keeping our streets safe from drugs,” he said.
