SINGAPORE – In its biggest heroin bust in 19 years, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized 14.1 kg of the drug in an operation that also saw officers drag out a significant cache of other drugs.

In 2001, CNB recovered 14.9 kg of the drug.

Around 2.8 kg of crystalline methamphetamine, also known as ice, 7.5 kg of cannabis, 323 g of ecstasy fragments, 28 ecstasy tablets, 1,008 tablets were seized in the drug bust on Wednesday (November 11) from Erimin-5 and cash worth $ 12,629 at various locations. .

The total amount seized is estimated to be around $ 2 million.

Three men and two women, between 29 and 55 years old, were arrested for their alleged participation.

Speaking to the media at CNB headquarters on Friday, Superintendent Aaron Tang, director of the CNB intelligence division, said: “Even with movement restrictions due to the Covid-19 situation, the Drug traffickers are still making big bets and exploiting the situation in order to profit from addiction and misery. “

The action began Wednesday afternoon after CNB agents intercepted a vehicle near Siglap Road and arrested two men, ages 55 and 50, and a 52-year-old woman. All three are Singaporean.

In his vehicle, officers found three packages containing approximately 1.45 kg of heroin in total.

Drug hunters also found 3 g of heroin and 2 g of ice in the 50-year-old man.

About 7 g of ice and 20 ecstasy tablets were in the woman.

Officers then took the woman to her hideout near Siglap Road, where a total of 11 g of heroin, 2 g of ice, one ecstasy tablet, and one Erimin-5 tablet were recovered.

In a follow-up operation the same day, another team of CNB officers moved in and arrested a 35-year-old man after observing him for some time near a Housing Board block near Bedok Reservoir Road.

Six packages containing approximately 2.78 kg of heroin, one package containing 127 g of ice, five packages containing approximately 323 g of ecstasy fragments and $ 629 in cash were recovered.

Agents raided his apartment on the same block where 8.96 kg of heroin, 1.95 kg of ice, 2.5 kg of cannabis, 1,007 Erimin-5 tablets, seven ecstasy tablets and $ 12,000 in cash were seized.

A 29-year-old woman, a permanent resident, was arrested at the unit.

The 35-year-old man was escorted to his vehicle where 944 g of heroin, 763 g of Ice and 5.05 kg of cannabis were recovered.

The CNB said the investigations are still ongoing.

The total amount of drugs seized can, in one week, feed 6,740 heroin users, 1,630 ice users and 1,080 cannabis users.

“These traffickers will not stop trying, but we will not lower our guard either. They will not go unpunished for trying to corrupt our society with drugs,” said Superintendent Tang.

Under the Drug Abuse Act, anyone with more than 15g of diamorphine, or pure heroin, could face the death penalty.
