A Pasir Ris resident is frustrated by how her neighbor has been cluttering the common hallway in her Housing Board (HDB) block with bulky items.

Stomper J, who resides on the fifth floor of Block 511 Pasir Ris Street 52, said this has been going on for almost five years.

According to J, the situation got worse recently when the unit responsible for the disorder had a new tenant who moved out.

She shared 28 photos of the mess, consisting of items like bicycles, potted plants on metal shelves, clothes hanging from various shelves, and even granite tiles.

Stomper also expressed safety concerns and said his exit would be obstructed in the event of an emergency.

In response to a query from Stomp, a Pasir Ris-Punggol City Council spokesperson said that he has been working with J and her neighbor since October 3.

“As of October 20, the resident has acknowledged and thanked us for our efforts by email. We have also assured her that we will continue to monitor the situation,” he added.

“While we are generally flexible to allow some concession to the use of the common corridor for the transitory needs of our residents or urban greening efforts, we take a serious opinion when these elements are potentially dangerous, become obstructive to others, or when they can hinder emergency evacuation and rescue efforts.

“We will base all of our rectification efforts in accordance with the Fire Safety Act (Chapter 109A), which is enforced by the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF).”
