A 30-year-old Chinese vlogger died on Wednesday (September 30) after her ex-husband set her on fire while doing a live broadcast two weeks earlier.
The woman, named Lamu, had more than 885,000 followers on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
He became popular for filming videos of his daily life in the rural mountainous regions of China’s Sichuan Province.
The clips usually show her foraging for food in the mountains, cooking and singing songs dressed in traditional Tibetan clothing, AFP reported.
The September 14 incident sparked outrage on social media over the issue of domestic violence.
Followers of his live streaming account said they saw the screen go dark before hearing the screams.
Beijing Youth Daily reported that Lamu’s ex-husband allegedly broke into her home and held her with a knife, before pouring gasoline on her body.
The man, surnamed Tang, was said to be angry after Lamu filed for divorce a second time and had a history of domestic violence. The couple has two children.
Lamu suffered burns to 90 percent of his body, and netizens raised around one million yuan (S $ 200,900) for the family after the attack.
In Lamu’s latest video posted on the day of the attack, she was seen performing a traditional Tibetan song to thank her fans.
