The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect our daily lives, but it could also be an opportunity for some to snag a discounted phone. The outbreak has resulted in a reduction in sales of Apple products, which has affected the income of the Cupertino-based technology giant.
In an attempt to boost sales and recover from financial losses, online retailers in China are offering huge discounts on the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.
iPhone 11
Suning is selling the 64GB model of the iPhone 11 at a discount of CNY500 ($ 70 / € 65) to CNY4,999 ($ 710 / € 650), while the Pro version with the same amount of storage dropped to CNY7,499 ($ 1,060 / € 980).
Other online retailers, including Apple’s authorized resellers on TMall, are offering similar price cuts on the iPhone 11 line in China.
Meanwhile, Apple’s partners in the Taiwanese supply chain expect production to stagnate in the second quarter of 2020 due to reduced demand, as people prefer to spend their money on essential items in the current situation. The new discounts aim to remove some of the existing stock and avoid that, but whether that will be enough remains to be seen.
