SINGAPORE: The Surbana Jurong Group will have a new president effective January 1, with the appointment of Chaly Mah, the infrastructure consultancy said on Monday (December 28).

This comes after the founding president, Mr. Liew Mun Leong, announced his retirement in September following a High Court decision to acquit his former servant Parti Liyani of charges of robbing his family.

Mah, who is also chairman of the Singapore Tourism Board, the Singapore Accounting Commission and NetLink NBN, said he is “deeply honored and humbled” to be entrusted with the new appointment.

“I would like to thank Mun Leong who, with SJ’s leadership team, was the driving force behind Surbana Jurong’s growth strategy,” said the 64-year-old.

“I look forward to working with the board and management to leverage this strong platform and make the Group a leading global player.”

Mr. Mah is also a member of the Board of Directors of SG Eco Fund, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Chairman of the Accounting Advisory Board of NUS Business School.

He also serves on the boards of the Singapore Economic Development Board, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Flipkart and CapitaLand.

Mah was previously Chairman of the Singapore Land Authority from 2010 to 2014, and Chairman of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce from 2015 to 2017.

He is the Singaporean Non-Resident Ambassador to Papua New Guinea and received the Public Service Medal for his contributions to public service in 2014.

Tan Gee Paw, a board member of Surbana Jurong, said Mr. Mah’s experience and vision will be “critical to continuing the journey that Surbana Jurong started under the leadership of Liew Mun Leong.”

“Chaly’s leadership credentials and his desire for Surbana Jurong to continue its growth journey, generating sustainable social and economic impact for our clients, appeal to all of us,” added Mr. Tan.

Surbana Jurong Group CEO Wong Heang Fine said he looks forward to working with Mah to take the company into “its next phase of growth.”

“Chaly’s deep experience and insights will benefit us enormously as we continue to expand our portfolio of specialized consulting skills and expand our capabilities for the built environment, anchored in sustainability and technology for the future,” added Wong.
