REUTERS: CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077, the highly anticipated video game that debuted last week, is being hit by negative user reviews for its console version, causing its shares to drop and raising concerns about the game’s success.

The company’s shares were down 13 percent as of 1020 GMT, extending its losses from last week amid a mixed reception to the game.

Cyberpunk, a futuristic RPG with Hollywood star Keanu Reeves, has an average rating of 2.8 out of 10 on a Metacritic review-gathering website for its version on Sony’s PlayStation 4, while the Microsoft XBox One version has a score of 3.7.

Jefferies analysts have also pointed to reports of rebates offered by both Sony and Microsoft for digital purchases of the game.

The company said it would hold a call with analysts at 2 pm (1300 GMT) and did not offer further comment.

Kacper Kopron, an analyst at brokerage TRIGON DM, estimates that sales of the game’s version on older consoles could represent a third of its total expected sales volumes over the game’s lifecycle.

CD Projekt should now focus on repairing its communication with players, Kopron added.

Vladimir Bespalov of VTB Capital said the scores on the consoles were “disappointing”, but the game’s better performance on platforms suggested the redistribution of sales for next year and kept his forecast of 33 million units sold by the end of 2021. .

Cyberpunk took eight years to develop and its debut was delayed three times as the company continued to work to optimize it for new and old consoles.

Its debut attracted great interest among gamers and had set a record on the Steam streaming platform for simultaneous players in a single game with over 1 million users.
