A car exploded and burst into flames near Block 227A Compassvale Drive on Saturday (November 21).
Stompers Serene Y Van, who live in the area, shared photos and videos of the car as it caught fire.
“My husband was on the empty deck because he was waiting for our friend’s Grab cab to arrive,” Serene said.
“It was then that he saw a man running frantically and warning people to stay away when black smoke began to surround a car.
“Suddenly, the car burst into flames. My husband immediately called the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) to inform them of the fire.”
Another resident, Wan, shared that he was in his apartment when this happened and saw smoke from his window.
“The black smoke really rose very high, almost as high as the residential blocks in the area,” Wan said.
“Then there was a sudden explosion and the car caught fire. I am relieved that SCDF officers arrived quickly and extinguished the fire.”

In response to an inquiry from Stomp, SCDF said they were alerted to the fire at 1.50pm.
“The fire involved a car. SCDF extinguished the fire with a jet of water and a backpack of compressed air foam,” added the SCDF spokesperson.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
