SINGAPORE – A Singaporean man who fled a car involved in a high-speed chase last Saturday (September 12) morning was arrested.

In a statement Thursday, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said the 29-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for alleged drug trafficking offenses. The police are also investigating him for crimes related to traffic.

In the same operation, the CNB also detained four other Singaporeans, including two men and two women between the ages of 25 and 34, for alleged drug-related offenses.

Approximately 7g of methamphetamine, also known as ice, was seized in raids carried out at various locations in Singapore.

The car chase, which took place around 1.10am last Saturday, was caught on camera and the video was widely shared.

Traffic police officers were patrolling along the Central Expressway towards the Seletar Expressway, near Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, when they encountered a driver driving at relatively slow speed in the far right lane.

In an earlier statement, police said one of the officers instructed the driver to stop the car so they could perform a check, but he refused to stop and sped off.

A high-speed chase ensued before the car rolled onto a sidewalk on Canberra Street and crashed into a tree.

The 31-year-old male driver was arrested for dangerous driving, driving without a valid driver’s license and suspected drug-related offenses.

But her male passenger managed to escape.

The CNB said its officers established the identity of the passenger after “extensive investigations.”

Checks showed he was picked up by a 34-year-old man in a van after he fled the scene on Canberra Street.

The driver of the van was arrested Tuesday near Corporation Walk for alleged drug offenses.

In a follow-up operation that night, CNB officers arrested a 31-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman in the vicinity of Ho Ching Road.

During a search of his residential unit, a package containing approximately 1 g of ice was found, along with various drug paraphernalia, CNB said.

It was learned that the 25-year-old woman had purchased the Ice package from the male passenger about two weeks earlier.

On Wednesday afternoon, CNB agents raided the 29-year-old man’s hideout near Anchorvale Road.

They were forced to enter because he “refused to obey the officers’ legal orders to open the door.”

CNB said the man also turned violent when officers approached to arrest him.

A 31-year-old woman at the scene was also arrested for alleged drug-related activities. She was carrying a four-month-old baby.

Officers found seven packages containing approximately 6g of ice in total and various drug paraphernalia in the unit.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had been abusing Ice during her pregnancy, CNB said, adding that the baby is currently in the safe custody of a relative.
