Gone are the days when people thought monkeys only loved bananas. Now, they come after our most beloved gift: bubble tea.

Stomp’s collaborator Song was completely shocked when she saw a monkey snatch a Koi bubble tea from a woman’s hand at a bus stop near MacRitchie Reservoir.

The ‘boba robbery’, as Song appropriately called it, occurred on Thursday (November 12) at 4.30pm.

In the video, a monkey can be seen sitting on the railing, reaching into the Koi cup and thoroughly enjoying the milk tea.

Another monkey then jumps onto the railing to join the feast, but his friend quickly rejects him.

A third monkey can also be seen eating loggerhead remains that have fallen to the ground.

“I was at the bus stop and I saw this lady holding her Koi drink while waiting to board the bus,” Song said.

“Out of nowhere, a group of four monkeys appeared and a monkey snatched the plastic Koi bag from them.

“The lady resisted, but the plastic bag broke and the monkey managed to drink his milk tea.”

Song added that he saw the monkey immediately jump onto the railings to enjoy the stolen gift.

“The poor lady was shocked after the incident, and other people at the bus stop started hiding their food and drinks in their bags,” Song said.

According to the National Parks Board (NParks), here is what to do if you come across a monkey:

  1. Stop what you are doing immediately.
  2. Stay calm and quiet. Do not make sudden movements and do not make direct eye contact with the monkeys.
  3. Look away and back slowly. Stay away from the monkeys and run.
  4. If you are holding an object that attracts monkeys, hide it or discard it.
  5. Don’t try to hit the monkeys.
  6. If you have a child with you, put it on your shoulders. This will increase your perceived size, which could discourage monkeys from approaching you and your child.
  7. Stay away from the area until the monkeys are gone.
