KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR / ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – The question of whether Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin should resign is one of the issues that MPs from Barisan Nasional (BN) will discuss at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (October 26). ).

Hishammuddin Hussein, BN’s newly appointed general treasurer, said this is one of the topics for discussion.

“I want to hear BN’s position first,” he said when asked if it was necessary for Tan Sri Muhyiddin to resign after calls from various sectors to do so.

When asked if Umno would continue to support Muhyiddin, Hishammuddin said he could not answer, pending the Umno high council meeting to be held later Monday night.

“I don’t know. First we have to wait for Umno’s meeting,” he said.

BN consists of four parties allied with Prime Minister Muhyiddin’s Perikatan Nasional government. BN members are Umno with 39 MPs, the Malaysian Chinese Association (two MPs), the Malaysian Indian Congress (one MP) and the Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (one MP).

Hishammuddin was among several ministers who rushed to attend the BN meeting after meeting with Muhyiddin, who chaired a special cabinet meeting in Putrajaya earlier.

Earlier, BN President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the BN meeting was called to allow coalition MPs to raise any questions following recent political developments.

It was learned that the meeting was a pre-council meeting in which BN deputies participated to discuss matters before the start of the Parliament session on November 2.

Also seen arriving at the meeting were former Prime Minister Najib Razak and veteran Umno lawmaker Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who have been critical of the Muhyiddin administration.

The meeting comes after the King’s announcement on Sunday that it was not necessary to impose emergency measures on the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic after consulting with other state monarchs. Muhyiddin had proposed the emergency measures to the King last Friday, after discussing it with his cabinet ministers.

The King also reminded all politicians, in particular legislators, to immediately put an end to all forms of politicking that may disturb the stability of the country, adding that he had confidence in the current administration to deal with the Covid outbreak. 19.
