Ah, the Asian koel. Even if you don’t know this cuckoo bird by name, you’d probably know it by its distinctively aggravating call – that loud ‘ku-oo’ sound that wakes you up early in the morning.
Basically a woman has returned the favor in kind by replying to one in her own language.
In a TikTok video posted by @berke_lium on Deepavali (November 14), the young woman engaged in a vocal exchange with an Asian koel, doing ‘ku-oo’ in progressively higher pitches.
Naturally, the bird won.

This would be a much more measured response than the man who responded to bird calls in April by basically screaming in utter frustration.

That familiar rumble is, in fact, a mating call from male Asian koels, and it’s abhorred by enough people to get its own section on the National Parks Board (NParks) website.
The board works with the National Environment Agency to actively prune trees, remove nests and food sources to deter birds from roosting in residential areas.
A species protected by the Wildlife Law, people who cannot bear the songs of birds can contact the Animal and Veterinary Service.
“While there are Singaporeans who have been bothered by the calls of the Asian Koel, there are also others who enjoy the presence of such wildlife in our environment. We seek your understanding regarding the management of Koel’s Asian population, ”NParks noted.
