SINGAPORE: A beauty salon and five food and beverage outlets have been fined for violating COVID-19 safe management measures, Enterprise Singapore said on Sunday (September 6).

Violations were found during enforcement checks in August. The businesses are located in the Golden Mile Complex, Golden Mile Tower, Peninsula Plaza and People’s Park Complex, Enterprise Singapore said.

Mei Mei Beauty at People’s Park Complex was penalized for offering threading services “where the thread was held in the esthetician’s mouth,” the statement said, adding that this practice is currently not allowed.

Composition fines were also issued to King of Fried Rice Management and Leng Saap @ Rot Fai Market at Golden Mile Tower, New Udon Thai Food at Golden Mile Complex, as well as Little Myanmar and Yanant Thit at Peninsula Plaza.

The F&B establishments were fined for not respecting the minimum safety distance of 1 m between groups of diners.

New Udon Thai Food was fined more than S $ 2,000.

“This is the second time that the media has failed to apply the proper secure management measures,” said Enterprise Singapore.

New Udon Thai Food was first fined in June for poor crowd control and for failing to guarantee a safe distance of 1m between customers in queues.

“Further action will be taken if these companies continue to break the rules, including imposing higher fines and suspending their operations. They could also be charged in court under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act,” said Enterprise Singapore.

“We take any violations of safe distancing measures seriously and will not hesitate to take action against companies that do not comply.”

First-time offenders can be fined up to S $ 10,000, jailed for up to six months, or both. Repeat offenders face up to double the fine and jail time.

“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant, be socially responsible and cooperate fully with the measures that establishments have put in place,” said Enterprise Singapore.

People should wear their masks properly whenever they are outside, and diners should only remove their masks while eating or drinking. Meetings should be limited to five people and mixing of different groups of diners should be avoided.

“Businesses must also play their role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping their staff and customers safe during this period,” added Enterprise Singapore.

“This includes ensuring their staff strictly adhere to safe management measures, as well as actively intervening and guiding their clients if they are violating any measures.”
