John Barnes says the “Manchester United style” no longer exists and thinks Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should copy Jurgen Klopp.

Solskjaer, who says that anything can happen this season, has eased the pressure on him earlier in the season after two Champions League wins over PSG and RB Leipzig.

The Norwegian was beginning to feel the heat, which culminated after a 6-1 home loss to Spurs.

Back-to-back wins and two strong performances in Europe have eased the pressure, but the former United super-submarine tends to move from crisis to crisis at Old Trafford.

Barnes thinks it’s time to Solskjaer to “stamp his own authority” on United and stop living in the past.

“The [Solskjaer] he likes to talk about the old Manchester United style, which no longer exists and you can’t go back, ”said Barnes. Premier League Productions.

“Liverpool fans were accused of living in the past, by Manchester United fans, when the dynasty ended and when a coach arrived they were under pressure, that’s what Liverpool’s style is like.

“Managers in the past were under pressure to recreate that. Manchester United have been doing the same since Fergie left.

“When Van Gaal arrived, who had won the Champions League and was a great coach, they should have said what you wanted to do, forget about two extremes and how we played, but he was not allowed to do that. Mourinho the same.

“When Ole came, he wanted to go back to that. But you have to stamp his authority and his own philosophy, which is what Jurgen Klopp has done.

“Forget what Liverpool did, this is what I’m going to do and the players agree.

“I’m not sure what your [Solskjaer’s] The philosophy is, I think the players drive how Manchester United will play ”.

Meanwhile, Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester United is “not close” to the position it should be in, despite Solskjaer feeling like “a new Alex Ferguson” at first.

Solskjaer will take over his 100th game as United manager on Sunday when he faces Arsenal. He is approaching the second anniversary of his appointment, initially as interim manager.

Solskjaer got off to a great start to his time in charge, earning him the permanent job. However, in the months since then, the club has had mixed luck.

For example, they were eliminated in the semifinals of the three cup competitions that they played last season. Perhaps it best summarizes how they have progressed, but they are still missing something to make that final leap into the glory days Solskjaer was a part of as a player.

Ahead of Solskjaer’s historic day, Sky Sports expert Redknapp reflected on the job the Norwegian has done at Old Trafford.
