SINGAPORE – Relatives of a 14-year-old boy accused of murdering his father hired a team of lawyers to represent the teenager.

They are Mr. Shashi Nathan, Mr. Jeremy Pereira and Ms. J. Jayaletchmi from the Withers KhattarWong Law Firm.

On the other hand, Nathan is also one of the lawyers representing Ahmad Danial Mohamed Rafa’ee, now 35 years old and accused of murdering Ms. Felicia Teo Wei Ling, 19 years old, in 2007.

The case of the 14-year-old boy was mentioned in the Juvenile Courts on Thursday (December 31).

Nathan told The Straits Times that the teenager will be on remand in a children’s home and that his case has been postponed until January 6 of next year.

Details about the child and his family cannot be disclosed, as those under the age of 18 are covered by the Children and Youth Act.

The Singaporean boy is charged with murdering his 49-year-old father in a unit at the Edelweiss Park condominium on Flora Road near Loyang Avenue around 10 a.m. on December 11.

In a previous statement, the police said: “Upon arrival, the officers found the man wounded and immobile in that place.”

The man was taken unconscious to Changi General Hospital where he later died.

Later, the boy was arrested at the scene.

Those guilty of murder could face the death penalty.

However, those under the age of 18 would not be sentenced to death, but to life imprisonment.
