Former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole says he would love to have benefited from winger Hakim Ziyech’s left foot “wand”.

Ziyech played a starring role in The Blues win 4-1 over Sheffield United on Saturday, claiming two assists.

In fact, after a limited role in his first three games since returning from injury, the moroccan has continued to impress. His two contributions against the Blades were added to his goals against Burnley and Krasnodar.

Cole was a Sky sports pundit during the game and couldn’t hide his admiration for the summer recruit.

“When Ziyech gets the ball on his left foot, he calls for runs, he’s such a talented kid,” said the 39-year-old (via Daily mail).

“If I was playing him, I would always be looking to stay behind. I would love to play with someone of that quality. I had the pleasure of playing with (Frank) Lampard, who used to be behind me.

“But as soon as Ziyech opens up and takes it out with that cultured left foot, I run back because he has a left foot wand.”

Ziyech’s rebound in form has coincided with his improvement in fitness. In fact, he only played 80 minutes in his first three games against Southampton, Sevilla and United manchester.

However, since then he has played 72 minutes against Burnley, 74 against Rennes and the full 90 minutes against the blades.

The 27-year-old’s first assist on Saturday set up Ben Chilwell’s goal. The English left-back benefited when a Ziyech cross hit him at the far post.

Meanwhile, in the second half, his cross allowed Thiago Silva to head over to Blades goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Lampard praises Ziyech

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Lampard also revealed his admiration for his new recruit.

In fact, Lampard admitted that the summer signing looks even more impressive since the two started working together.

The manager pointed to Ziyech’s recent long absence, and his return, as a reason to get excited about his potential.
