About $ 12,000 in donations have been raised to help defray the medical expenses of an eight-year-old girl who has been in a coma since last Friday after she was thrown from a truck during an accident in Woodlands.

The girl suffered a head injury and broke both legs, and required emergency surgery.

She is now in the intensive care unit at KK Children’s and Women’s Hospital, where her father Eric Tan, 45, and his wife take turns watching, waiting for her to wake up.

Speaking briefly with The New Paper yesterday, Tan said that her daughter Lovelynn’s condition had not improved and that the critical period of her recovery had been extended because the bleeding in her brain had not yet disappeared.

An old friend of Mr. Tan, Mr. Andy Ang, 35, was the one who led the fundraising effort.

Ang, who met Tan more than six years ago while decorating floats for a temple, said: “He hasn’t been sleeping all this time. We can only help him by raising funds so he doesn’t have to worry.” on medical fees. “

Lovelynn was one of four people injured in the accident involving the pickup truck and a red Audi car at 12 Woodlands Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. last Friday.

The 56-year-old van driver, who is Tan’s brother-in-law, was arrested for dangerous driving and causing injury.

Tan’s niece, 27, and nephew, 23, were also injured in the accident. The nephew needed surgery as he had a ruptured spleen and facial injuries.

Mr. Tan’s youngest daughter, aged six, was also in the van, but was unharmed and is now staying with her aunt.

Tan said her six-year-old daughter was still in shock from the accident when she visited on Monday. “She kept talking about it.”

He said he was grateful to Mr. Ang and the public for their help and donations.

He added: “Now, my focus is on being in the hospital.”

It’s unclear what the final bill will be, so a group of Tan’s friends, including Ang, are trying to raise as much as possible.

Ang said they keep the fundraising period short as they are wary of scammers looking to profit.

They will stop receiving donations today at 11pm.

Ang is also helping to collect fundraising efforts from other organizations, including the Leong Nam Temple in Sengkang West, who have run their own donation drives for Lovelynn.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the temple is setting aside $ 10,000 to help Mr. Tan and his family during this period.

The temple general manager said, “(Mr. Tan) has served the temple for more than 20 years. Although he may decline donations because he does not want to upset everyone, many people want to help the young woman.”
