A 35-year-old woman was arrested after an altercation with a man at a restaurant and police in Novena Square on Tuesday (October 13).

Multiple readers alerted Stomp to a video showing the woman screaming while being detained by police officers, who can later be seen carrying her away.

In response to an inquiry from Stomp, police said they received a call for assistance in Novena Square at 4.24pm.

“A 35-year-old woman randomly yelled at an unrelated male customer in a restaurant and allegedly threw a bowl of soup on his head,” a police spokesman said.

“In an attempt to confront her, a fight broke out that led to the woman spitting on the man and biting his right hand.”

The 32-year-old was conscious when he was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The woman continued to scream incoherently during the confrontation with police officers at the mall.

Her relatives, who had arrived at the scene, were also unable to calm her down.

“As she was assessed to pose a danger to herself and the public, she was subsequently arrested under Section 7 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act,” police added.

The woman is also being investigated for voluntarily causing harm and using criminal force to dissuade a public servant from performing his duties. She had thrown verbal insults and also spat at the officers in the process.

The woman is currently in treatment at the Institute of Mental Health.
