A karaoke shop was ordered to suspend operations for 20 days after it was found to have violated safe management measures on Christmas Day.

MZS Family Karaoke in the Orchard Road area had allowed patrons to consume alcohol after 10.30pm, and 51 people were also found inside.

The Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE) said yesterday that the Singapore Police and Tourism Board were investigating the violations.

The police are also investigating the 51 people for alleged breach of safe distancing measures.

Social gatherings of more than five people outside of an individual’s home were prohibited during phase two.

This limit was increased to eight per group in phase three, which began on Monday.

Food and beverage establishments cannot accept bookings from groups of more than eight and mixing between groups is strictly prohibited.

The karaoke shop was ordered to close for 20 days from Christmas Day to January 13.

MSE added that seven more food and beverage outlets were fined $ 1,000 each for violations of secure management measures (SMM) from December 18 through last Saturday, including admission and seating groups of more than five. , and customers seated less than a meter away.

These establishments are Six Gray Bar in Outram Park, Indian Xpress Bar & Restaurant in Little India area, ABC Nasi Kandar in Jalan Besar, ChiChi in Chinatown, Lawry’s The Prime Rib Singapore and Coffeesmith in Orchard area, and Manpei in Clarke Quay.

MSE said: “Over the coming New Years weekend, agencies will continue to intensify compliance checks at food and beverage outlets.

“It is imperative that businesses and the public continue to adhere to SMMs to keep community transmission low as we resume activities.”
