SINGAPORE: A man will be indicted on Wednesday (May 6) for violating his notice of home stay three times to meet his friends and invite them to the hotel where he was complying with their notice.

Chng Tianxi, 37, returned to Singapore from Thailand on March 26. He was sent a notice to stay home to stay in a hotel room at Pan Pacific Service Suites Orchard between March 26 and April 9, the Immigration and Control Authority (ICA) said.

However, the Singaporean allegedly left his hotel room three times to meet his friends, even inviting a friend to his room twice.

On April 1, Chng left his room at approximately 1:25 a.m. and took an elevator to take a friend from the basement parking lot to his room, ICA said. The friend left around 5am.

He is said to have left his room again on April 4 to bring the same friend at 12:35 in the morning. The friend left around 2am.

An ICA officer visited Chng the following day to inform him that it was mandatory to stay in his room.

However, ICA said that Chng left his room again on April 6 to meet three friends in the basement parking lot, and took the elevator with them to the 16th floor. He then returned to his room.

Chng will be charged in court with the offenses set forth in Section 21A of the Infectious Diseases Act and Regulation 2020 on Infectious Diseases (Measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19).

If convicted, he faces up to six months in prison and a fine of up to S $ 10,000.
