Manchester United ‘contacts’ a possible Harry Maguire partner

According to the latest reports, Manchester United have “contacted” a possible partner for Harry Maguire before the summer transfer window.

Sir Alex Ferguson once coined the term “attack wins games, defense wins titles.” It is an adage that often rings true for Manchester United. Especially under the Scottish reign with Ferguson, often building stable defensive associations like Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister and Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer witnessed Ferguson’s fervent focus on defense first hand while serving under the Scotsman as a player. Now, as a manager, he hopes to repeat the same recipe at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer has shown his emphasis on defense by spending a considerable sum of money for Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The former became the world’s most expensive defender by signing on the dotted line for United.

The Norwegian move has already paid dividends with Maguire taking over the captaincy just six months after his United career.

Wan-Bissaka has also done well and has earned rave reviews with many tipping right for a spot on the England team.

However, it is clear that while Solskjaer has built the foundations for United’s defense, he still needs to fill in the gaps.

A role that has yet to be evaluated is a partner for Harry Maguire.

This season, that role has been filled by Victor Lindelof, however the Swedish defender has yet to prove himself at Old Trafford. The other candidate is Eric Bailly, but there are important questions about Ivory Coast’s propensity for injury.

And it seems that Solskjaer is trying to fix this uncertainty.

According to the French outlet Le10Sport through the Daily Express The Red Devils have contacted representatives from French center Ibrahima Konate for a possible move to Old Trafford.

Ibrahima Konate has been tremendously impressive for RB Leipzig the past two seasons, but the 20-year-old centerback has missed the vast majority of this season with a ripped muscle fiber injury.

The fact that Ibrahima Konate has yet to return from his injury could raise questions about whether it would be the right arrival at Old Trafford. However, Solskjaer has been impressive with his recruitment thus far and he must be trusted to make a move.
