Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been described in one word and has named a legendary Barcelona midfielder as his inspiration in the game.

The international of Portugal had a big impact for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side after signing in January and he was voted Premier League Player of the Month in February.

Fernandes he helped United’s 11-game unbeaten streak in all competitions before the season came to an abrupt halt.

In a Q&A with the United websiteFernandes was asked to describe himself as a player and replied: “Warrior, because for me every game is a battle. You need to get out into the game and just understand that you have to beat your opponent.

“With all due respect, because you must respect your opponent, but you must beat him. If you don’t beat them, they’ll beat you. It doesn’t matter who is on the other team.

“If he’s a friend, because I have friends playing in the Premier League, I don’t care. At that point, I will be the greatest enemy they can have.”

Fernandes has been mainly deployed in an attacking role in midfield by Solskjaer after often playing in a slightly deeper position for the previous club Sporting Lisbon.

He says he is inspired by the former great Barcelona and Spain Andres Iniesta.

Fernandes added: “The one I liked to see and follow was Iniesta, because Iniesta is a mix between an eight and a 10.

“It’s one way I can do better, between eight and 10. He’s the guy who always likes to have the ball, take a chance, and I think Iniesta was one of the best in the world.”
