Pundit explains why Leeds star Phillips would flourish under Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool have been urged to push a summer deal to sign Kalvin Phillips as the Leeds man could become one of the best midfielders in English football under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp.

Phillips has played a major role in helping the Whites advance to the top of the Championship this season and has become a regular for their hometown club under instrumental coach Marcelo Bielsa, drawing the attention of many suitors, including the England coach Gareth Southgate.

And then Aston Villa saw a £ 25m focus on the region rejected last summer, the midfielder was rewarded with a new five-year contract.

Since then, interest in Phillips has grown steadily with Wolves, Burnley, Tottenham and Sheffield United also among its suitors.

And now expert Darren Bent claims that a move to bring Phillips to Anfield would be a cunning move and says the 24-year-old would learn even better from Klopp and alongside people like Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

“Listen, if that movement occurs and it’s there on the table, you have to take it,” said Bent. Soccer insider.

“I don’t know how much he would play, but people are talking about Fabinho and his physical condition, how he only plays 60 or 70 minutes and then explodes a little bit.”

“It would be good for Kalvin Phillips. He would go there, learn his trade, see Fabinho and these types of players to see how they do it. As for skill, he is as good as anyone in that role.

“He has energy, passing, technically, he is a superior player, superior.”

“There was talk of him joining the England team before the shutdown. People rate it very well and if the opportunity is there for them, they have to take advantage of it.

“It is a little difficult, we are saying that he has to prove himself in the Premier League, but if one of the best, if not the best Premier League team wants him, it is a little difficult to say no!”

Leeds, however, would fight to retain the services of Phillips and would imagine his chances of doing so if the club secured promotion to the Premier League.

The player is also hired Leeds until the summer of 2024 and it could even be rewarded with an improved deal if United were to re-establish itself in the top flight.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy claimed in January that Phillips has all the credentials to play for a great club.

“He’s an excellent player, I saw him for the first time 18 months ago when he first stood out in a game and I thought ‘watch him,'” Murphy said in talkSPORT.

“I always look at the midfielders, it is natural.
